Stupid Glock question
 

I own a 17 3G........just bought a 19 3G

On the 19, when I pull back the slide empty it locks in place

On the 17, I have to push down the lever on the slide for it to lock

Is this normal?

With a properly seated empty magazine, either model Glock should lock the slide back.
It is possible that one or more of your magazines is not activating the slide stop on the G17.

No. Mag follower pushes up on slide stop, locking slide back. If you must do it manually then either the slide stop is installed improperly (likely) or the mag follower is not functioning (maybe weak mag spring).

Have you recently field stripped the weapon and perhaps failed to ensure the slide stop spring is UNDER the cross pin and not ABOVE it?

the mag was out of the 17, that is the difference..........told you it was a stupid question. Thanks
